COURSE OUTLINE
Resources: Science Probe 9
The course will also be supplemented with daily notes and different worksheets for further practice. Textbooks are assigned at the beginning of the course. If they are lost payment will be required. You will be asked to purchase a workbook as well. The workbooks cost $8.00. We will use the workbooks primarily for review purposes.
Letter Grades:
A (86 – 100%) B (73 – 85%) C+ ( 67 - 72) C ( 60- 66) C– (50 – 59%) Fail (0 – 49)
An “I” letter grade (communicated in WRITING or BY PHONE!) indicates that a student has incomplete or
unsubmitted assignment(s), and is at risk of, or is currently failing the course. The student will be given a
specific amount of time to complete the required work. At the end of the time limit, the I is either changed to a
passing grade (C-) or a failing grade (F) depending on whether or not the work was completed to a satisfactory
level. Please note that an “I” letter grade can be assigned even when a student is passing the course, but is “at risk”
of failing the course at semesters end (i.e. borderline achievement of less than 60%).
Topics:
Safety
Physics - Static and Current Electricity
Chemistry – Elements and Compounds
Biology – Cell division and Reproduction
Space Exploration – Universe and Stars
Evaluation: Marks are calculated as follows:
Chapter Tests 30%
Assignments/ Quizzes 50%
Final Exam 20%
Assignments: Homework will be assigned on a regular basis. Your name (first and last), date and period should be
written neatly in the top right corner. Your title should be centered on the top line. If the information is missing, be
prepared to not have a mark for that assignment or NHI (not handed in). If assignments are submitted after
the initial collection, they will be marked late.
Missing Class/Illness: If you miss class it is your responsibility to catch up on the missed work. Please make sure your parent phones the office. This is the only way to officially excuse your absence. Please check the website for homework.
If you miss a class:
1. If you know ahead of time ask a class mate to pick up handouts for you.
2. Study for any quizzes or tests.
3. See the teacher at lunch or before school starts to pick up handouts or copy notes missed.
Quizzes and Tests: If you missed a quiz or test, please be prepared to take it when you return.
